A Filipino was among those injured following a fire that broke out at a bar in a popular Swiss mountain resort, the Philippine Embassy in Berne confirmed on Monday.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), citing reports from the embassy, stated that the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident. The identity of the individual has been withheld pending notification of family members.
According to local Swiss authorities, the blaze erupted late Saturday night at a crowded entertainment venue. Emergency services evacuated dozens of patrons as firefighters battled the flames in the sub-zero temperatures characteristic of the alpine region.
The Philippine Embassy reported that the injured Filipino was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“Our embassy in Berne is closely monitoring the condition of our kababayan and stands ready to provide the necessary consular assistance,” the DFA said in a statement. “We are also in coordination with local authorities to determine the cause of the fire.”
Local police have launched an investigation into the origin of the blaze. Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have started in the kitchen area, though investigators have not ruled out other causes.
The resort, a frequent destination for international tourists and overseas workers, remains partially operational while the affected building undergoes safety inspections. No fatalities were reported in the incident.
