The Department of Education (DepEd) has secured 172,654 Apple MacBook Neo laptops for public school teachers and administrative personnel nationwide following the successful completion of competitive bidding for its latest computerization project.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the initiative aims to ease the burden on teachers who have long relied on personal laptops or outdated equipment to prepare lessons and perform their daily responsibilities.
Angara welcomed Apple’s participation in the procurement, emphasizing that providing reliable technology, backed by a five-year warranty and professional training, will help educators focus more on teaching and improving learning outcomes.
The procurement was also highlighted by Apple Chief Executive Officer John Ternus during the company’s fourth-quarter 2026 financial results conference call. Ternus described the agreement as Apple’s biggest education deal ever for Mac, involving the deployment of approximately 170,000 MacBook Neo units to Filipino teachers and school personnel.
Under the DepEd Computerization Program, the department has awarded contracts for a total of 231,725 teacher laptops, consisting of 169,008 MacBook Neo units and 62,717 Windows-based laptops. An additional 3,646 MacBook Neo units will be provided to administrative officers.
Each MacBook Neo unit was procured at approximately ₱43,000, around ₱6,900 below its base model’s Philippine suggested retail price of ₱49,900. The package includes a five-year warranty, built-in productivity tools, delivery and logistics, and professional development support. Deployment is scheduled from November 2026 to March 2027.
To maximize the benefits of the new equipment, DepEd is also partnering with Apple to introduce GuroXL, a comprehensive training framework designed to strengthen teachers’ digital skills. In coordination with the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), the program will provide pathways toward Apple Teacher Certifications and specialized technology leadership credentials.
DepEd and Apple are set to begin a series of distribution and launch activities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao this November. The activities will include interactive teacher unboxing sessions as part of the department’s efforts to advance digital learning and strengthen technology integration in Philippine basic education.
