The Department of Education – Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) will host the 2025 Learners’ Convergence Philippines and the 2025 National Career Expo this month, drawing 6,000 student leaders from across the country, according to an official on Tuesday.
DepEd-NIR Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico announced that the Learners’ Convergence will run from October 27 to 30, and the National Career Expo from October 27 to 28, both in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Education Secretary Sonny Angara is expected to attend the opening. “The learning convergence is a training designed for student leaders, while the career expo is for career guidance for students,” Uytico said in an interview.
Due to the events, DepEd-Dumaguete Assistant Division Superintendent Dr. Juditha Mapue explained that face-to-face classes have been suspended this month, with modules prepared for learners. Public schools are being used to accommodate visitors, including contingents for the Buglasan Festival and the upcoming student leaders.
Mapue assured that the division is addressing learning gaps caused by these suspensions, as well as disruptions from recent earthquakes in Cebu and Mindanao. “She, however, guaranteed alternative learning methods to ensure students continue their education.”
