The Department of Education (DepEd) said Wednesday it needs over ₱13 million in response funds for the cleanup and minor repairs of schools damaged by Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi).
According to the DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS), 76 schools across Central, Eastern, and Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao reported damages caused by the typhoon.
Around ₱11.6 million is needed for minor repairs, with ₱49,000 allotted per damaged classroom, while ₱2.11 million is required for cleanup and clearing operations in affected schools.
DepEd Media Relations chief Dennis Legaspi said the agency will tap its quick response fund (QRF) to ensure swift recovery efforts.
The DRRMS reported 64 totally damaged classrooms, 91 with major damage, and 237 with minor damage.
As of Wednesday, classes remain suspended in 20,681 schools across 10 regions, including Bicol, Mimaropa, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Meanwhile, 522 schools—or about 2,507 classrooms—are currently being used as evacuation centers for displaced residents.
