MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday, Oct. 6, signed a Joint Memorandum Circular establishing the YAKAP School Health and Protection Program (YAKAP-SHP).

Education Secretary Sonny Angara, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Health Secretary Edwin Mercado, and PhilHealth Acting President and CEO Beverly Ho led the signing.

The inter-agency initiative is aimed at strengthening health and protection services for Filipino learners through closer coordination among the education, health, social health insurance, and local government sectors.

Under the partnership, the agencies are expected to coordinate the implementation of YAKAP-SHP in schools and communities, bringing government health and protection initiatives closer to students.

The joint memorandum circular sets the framework for cooperation among the four agencies in implementing the program and defining their respective responsibilities.

Further details on the program’s specific services, coverage, and implementation guidelines are expected to be provided by the participating agencies.
