DENR to distribute 50 sets of trash bins to Metro Manila LGUs, schools

MANILA — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) is set to distribute 50 sets of rolling trash bins to nine local government units (LGUs) and selected schools across Metro Manila to strengthen waste segregation and solid waste management.

The DENR-NCR, through its Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office (MBSCMO), conducted the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) covering the planned distribution of the waste collection equipment.

DENR-NCR Regional Executive Director Nilo Tamoria led the activity and emphasized the importance of cooperation between government agencies and educational institutions in promoting responsible waste disposal and environmental protection.

The beneficiaries include the cities of Malabon, Navotas, Caloocan, Marikina, Quezon City, Manila, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Taguig, along with selected schools in the National Capital Region.

The rolling trash bins feature different colors and waste classifications designed to support proper garbage segregation in accordance with Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The law establishes guidelines for waste segregation, collection, recycling, and disposal to minimize environmental pollution and improve solid waste management practices.

According to the DENR-NCR, the additional waste collection equipment is intended to support existing waste management programs and facilities in participating cities and schools.

The agency also aims to reduce improper garbage disposal along streets, drainage systems, esteros, and other waterways that contribute to pollution and flooding in Metro Manila.

Through coordination with local governments and educational institutions, the DENR-NCR seeks to encourage greater public participation in waste segregation and environmental protection.

The planned distribution forms part of the agency’s continuing efforts to improve solid waste management and help maintain cleaner communities and waterways across the capital region.
