The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday told the Senate impeachment court that it had not received copies of the summaries prepared by an Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) witness and referred to by the prosecution.
Defense lead counsel Sheila Sison raised the matter as the prosecution prepared to proceed with the presentation of AMLC-related evidence during the 32nd day of Duterte’s impeachment trial.
“Unfortunately, Your Honor, we have not received any of the documents mentioned made by the lead prosecutor,” Sison said.
She said she checked her email during the proceedings but found no communication containing the documents from either the AMLC or the prosecution.
“I just checked my email now and I don’t see any email coming from the AMLC or prosecution. I was also informed that we haven’t also received yet any hard copies, Your Honor,” Sison said.
“In fact, this is the first time we’re hearing of these summaries,” she added.
Sison’s statement raised an issue over the defense’s access to the documents as the impeachment court prepared to hear testimony involving financial records.
The AMLC evidence is being presented in connection with the prosecution’s allegations involving Duterte’s wealth and financial transactions. The allegations remain contested and subject to the presentation and examination of evidence before the impeachment court.
