ZUS Coffee punched its historic ticket to the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference final after sweeping PLDT, 25-22, 28-26, 25-22, on Thursday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
American reinforcement Anna DeBeer delivered a commanding 30-point masterpiece to lead the Thunderbelles, with Chinnie Arroyo backing her up with 14 points. The victory set up a high-stakes, one-game championship duel against the Petro Gazz Angels at the Big Dome on Sunday.
“This is just so awesome for our program. To be here – I’m so thankful. And to make history for ZUS Coffee… I know we still have so much more to give, and I can’t wait for Sunday,” DeBeer said after the one-hour and 35-minute triumph.
Alexis Miner chipped in eight points, including two blocks, while veterans Jovelyn Gonzaga and Thea Gagate added seven and six points. Playmaker Cloanne Mondonedo tallied 18 excellent sets, with libero Alyssa Eroa anchoring the defense with 23 digs.
PLDT fought behind Anastasia Bavykina’s 16 points and Savannah Dawn Davison’s 15, but fell short against ZUS Coffee’s steadier endgame.
Earlier, the Petro Gazz Angels outlasted Akari in a five-set thriller, 25-19, 25-17, 15-25, 22-25, 15-13, to clinch the first berth in the finals.
Brooke Van Sickle starred with 23 points built on 20 attacks and three blocks, while also contributing 18 receptions and 13 digs in a complete two-way performance. Lindsey Mae Vander Weide added 16 points, Myla Pablo chipped in 14, and Mar Jana Phillips turned in 13 points with two blocks and two aces.
Akari’s Annie Mitchem exploded for 28 points, all off attacks, while Celine Domingo contributed 16 points highlighted by three blocks and two aces.
The stage is now set for a blockbuster PVL Reinforced finale: DeBeer and the rising Thunderbelles versus the powerhouse Angels, with the championship on the line this Sunday at the Big Dome.
