Erica De Luna etched her name in UAAP history with a stunning quadruple-double, leading De La Salle Zobel (DLSZ) to a 114-24 rout of Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 girls’ basketball tournament on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
The 18-year-old guard delivered a monumental performance, recording 32 points, 16 rebounds, 12 steals, and 11 assists, becoming the first player across all five UAAP divisions to accomplish the rare feat.
The last recorded quadruple-double in Philippine collegiate basketball was in 2009 when Joshua Saret tallied 89 points, 13 steals, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in Jose Rizal University’s 171-43 demolition of Angeles University Foundation in NCAA Season 86.
“This boosts my confidence heading into my collegiate career. Even with limited preparation, I’m proud—not just because of my stats, but also because we ended the season on a high note,” said De Luna, a graduate of Buli Elementary School in Muntinlupa.
DLSZ finishes the season strong
DLSZ’s dominant performance was fueled by Princess Cordero, who added 25 points, eight assists, five steals, and two rebounds, while Naima Navarro contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Alexandra Dominguez also chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, while Sofia Martinez recorded eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals. The Junior Lady Archers stormed to a 59-12 halftime lead, never looking back as they wrapped up their campaign with a 2-4 record.
For Ateneo, Jian Exconde and Cesca Pangilinan managed six points apiece, while Matia Molina contributed four points, three assists, and two rebounds. The Blue Eagles ended their season winless at 0-6.
NU-NS, UST set for championship showdown
With the elimination round complete, the National University-Nazareth School (NU-NS) and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) will battle for the UAAP Season 87 girls’ basketball championship.
UST and Adamson University were named co-champions in Season 82 after the finals were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the league’s young stars continue to rise, De Luna’s record-breaking performance sets a new standard for future generations in UAAP girls’ basketball.
