Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman was recognized as an “Outstanding Filipina in the Field of Public Service” at the Gawad Pilipino Awards in celebration of 2025 Women’s Month.
The prestigious event, held on Sunday at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City, honored women who have made significant contributions to empowerment and equality across various sectors.
According to a DBM news release on Monday, Pangandaman received the award under the “Natatanging Pilipina sa Larangan ng Lingkod Bayan” category.
Representing Pangandaman at the ceremony, DBM Undersecretary Goddes Hope Libiran accepted the award and emphasized the Secretary’s historic role as the first Muslim Budget Secretary and the only woman in President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s economic team.
“Sec. Mina takes pride in sharing her insights because, for her, uplifting others is what truly matters,” Libiran said.
In a message delivered by Libiran, Pangandaman highlighted the crucial role of women in governance and beyond.
“In a world where women’s efforts are often overlooked, this award affirms our vital role in driving progress—whether in government, business, education, healthcare, or at home,” Pangandaman said.
Reflecting on the legacy of influential Filipinas in history, she credited former DBM Secretary Emilia Boncodin—the first female Budget Secretary—and Sen. Loren Legarda, whom she considers one of her greatest mentors, as inspirations in her public service journey.
Pangandaman also reaffirmed her commitment to gender equality and inclusive policymaking.
“This nomination is a reminder of that commitment, and I take it as a challenge to double—if not triple—my efforts in championing gender equality, making sure every Filipina has a voice, a platform, and a future where she can thrive,” she said.
