The Department of Agriculture in Davao Region is preparing to bring durian and other local fruits to Manila, Baguio and Cebu through its planned “Kadiwa on Wheels” program.
DA-11 Regional Director Macario Gonzaga said the initiative was designed to give farmers wider market access while allowing consumers in major cities to buy produce directly from Davao growers.
Gonzaga said the region had increased its fruit supply this year, easing concerns among farmers over possible price drops caused by abundant harvests.
He added that agriculture officials in Manila, Baguio and Cebu had already expressed readiness to receive shipments from Davao.
Durian production had declined in 2025 due to weather conditions, but supply increased by 1.56 percent this year, according to DA-11.
The agency also opened the 12th Kadayawan Durian Festival with the Durian Industry Association of Davao City and SM Lanang, providing farmers with a venue to sell directly to buyers and visitors.
Aside from durian, the festival also featured mangosteen, lanzones, rambutan, avocado, marang and pomelo, among other fruits produced in the region.
DA-11 also reported a successful trial shipment of 1.08 metric tons of Puyat and Duyaya durian varieties to Muscat, Oman, adding to Davao’s existing export markets in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
