Fruit growers in Davao are expanding their reach in the Visayas, with 20 metric tons of produce set for sale in Cebu City and Bohol under the government’s Kadiwa on Wheels program.
The Department of Agriculture-Davao Region said Monday that the shipment would leave Davao on Sept. 8. Consumers in the two Central Visayas destinations could buy the produce from Sept. 10 to 16.
The upcoming run forms part of a broader effort to move Davao harvests directly to markets outside the region and create additional selling opportunities for local farmers.
Figures from the agency’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division showed that the program was targeting the movement of 70 metric tons of produce overall. The Central Visayas shipment would account for 20 metric tons of that volume.
Among the participating groups were the Davao City Durian Industry Development Council and the Durian Industry Association of Davao City, which represent stakeholders in one of the region’s major fruit industries.
Before heading to the Visayas, Kadiwa on Wheels brought Davao produce to Metro Manila. Sales were held at the DA central office on Sept. 3 and at Kartilya ng Katipunan near Manila City Hall the following day.
The program’s next scheduled destinations after Cebu and Bohol are Baguio City from Sept. 25 to 28 and the World Trade Center in Pasay City from Oct. 8 to 10.
DA-Davao said the series of selling activities was designed to strengthen connections between producers and markets while making regional agricultural products accessible to more consumers.
