The local government of Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur implemented measures to cushion the impact of the ongoing energy crisis linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Municipal Administrator Omar Jason Martel said the town aligned its response with broader government efforts following the declaration of a state of national energy emergency.

He said local authorities mobilized resources and adjusted operations to ensure services remain uninterrupted while protecting residents from possible economic strain.

To provide financial support, the local government revised its Annual Investment Plan to include a subsidy program worth Php 50 million.

Officials also worked on a supplemental budget ranging from Php 15 million to Php 20 million to fund immediate assistance for affected sectors.

Energy-saving measures were introduced, including reducing fuel and electricity use in government offices and enforcing stricter monitoring of fuel supply in coordination with the Department of Energy.

The municipal government also strengthened price monitoring mechanisms and coordinated with the Department of Trade and Industry to prevent unjustified increases in basic goods.

Other steps included limiting travel through virtual meetings and adopting a modified work setup, as officials said sustained cooperation is needed to manage the effects of the crisis.
