Davao City Welcomes the DGT Central Park and Cultural Center, Ushering in a New Era of Urban and Cultural Growth

The Davao City government proudly welcomed the opening of the DGT Central Park on March 15, marking a significant step toward reshaping the city’s cultural and economic landscape.

The event also featured the groundbreaking ceremony for the Davao Global Township (DGT) Cultural Center, led by Cebu Landmasters Inc., YHEST Realty and Development Corp., and De La Salle University (DLSU).

In a message read by Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr., Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the importance of this milestone in advancing innovative urban development and fostering people-centered, inclusive spaces. Quitain further highlighted that the DGT Cultural Center, set to be the future home of the DLSU-Villa Abrille Center for Professional Development, will serve as a hub for artistic expression and cultural preservation.

The DGT Central Park provides a new green space for recreation, promoting a sustainable lifestyle for Davaoeños. Mayor Duterte also noted that Davao City, home to 11 ethnolinguistic tribes, holds a rich cultural heritage, emphasizing that preserving this heritage is a shared responsibility.

DLSU President Bernard S. Oca expressed the university’s pride in being part of this transformative project, reinforcing its commitment to education, innovation, and community empowerment. He stated, “The cultural center stands as our testament to our shared commitment to education, innovation, and community empowerment.”

Tourism Secretary Maria Esperanza Christina Frasco, in a message read by DOT-11 Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, commended the initiative’s alignment with the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP), underscoring the crucial role of infrastructure in boosting tourism and nurturing local talent.

Oca further highlighted the collaboration between DLSU and YHEST Realty and Development Corp., emphasizing its transformative impact in bridging education and industry needs while fostering leadership and service. He also paid tribute to the Villa Abrille clan, whose pioneering spirit has played a vital role in Davao’s development.

“As we lay the foundation of the cultural center, we envision a space where individuals can learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully not just to Davao City but to the entire region and nation, as well,” Oca said.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the DGT Cultural Center and DGT Central Park will serve as beacons of culture, learning, and progress, further solidifying Davao City’s position as a center for sustainable urban development and cultural preservation.
