Damage from recent monsoon and tropical cyclones exceeds 73,000 houses

The number of houses damaged by last month’s enhanced southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has surpassed 73,000, according to the latest situational report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) released on Wednesday.

The report indicates that a total of 73,059 houses have been affected, with 64,593 classified as “partially damaged” and 8,466 as “totally damaged.” The damage was reported across 16 regions, with Region 1, or the Ilocos Region, experiencing the highest impact, accounting for 67,763 damaged houses. Of this total, 60,121 are categorized as “partially damaged” and 7,642 as “totally damaged.”

On August 1, the NDRRMC reported that the number of damaged houses was only 55,550, highlighting the significant increase in damage over the past month.

In addition to housing damage, the estimated impact on agriculture is PHP2.98 billion, while damage to infrastructure is reported at PHP15.46 billion.

The number of affected families has reached 2,379,904, which translates to approximately 8,641,010 individuals residing in 8,673 barangays across 17 regions nationwide.

As of Wednesday morning, 23,142 families are still receiving aid in 782 evacuation centers, while another 27,861 families are receiving assistance in other locations, according to the NDRRMC.

Reported fatalities remain at 40, with three confirmed and 37 others undergoing validation.
