DA to roll out PHP20/kg rice for all in Negros Island Region

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will hold a special rollout of the government’s PHP20 per kilogram rice project for all residents in the Negros Island Region (NIR) this Saturday.

Alejandro Rafal, DA-NIR’s Regional Technical Director for Operations officer-in-charge, said the activity will be conducted simultaneously in Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, and Siquijor. For Negros Oriental, the National Food Authority (NFA) allocated 150 bags of rice, each containing 50 kilos.

“This is open to everybody with no special or vulnerable sectors specifically identified to benefit from the activity. Each person can purchase up to 10 kilos of the government-subsidized rice,” Rafal said.

The rollout will begin at 8 a.m. at the Negros Oriental State University gymnasium in Dumaguete City. Rice will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and buyers are required to bring valid government identification.

The event is part of the Handog ng Pangulo (Gift of the President) program, a one-day caravan of government services on Sept. 13, coinciding with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s 68th birthday.
