Cade Cunningham recorded a triple-double with a career-high 46 points as the Detroit Pistons edged the Washington Wizards 137-135 in overtime on Monday, extending their winning streak to seven games.
Cunningham added 12 rebounds, 11 assists, five steals, and two blocks to help Detroit improve to 9-2. “He’s the one who is going to lead this team whatever we do,” said teammate Jalen Duren, who contributed 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Rookie Daniss Jenkins came off the bench and hit two clutch three-pointers, including one at the buzzer to force overtime, finishing with 24 points and eight rebounds. “I told myself if I got that ball, I was going to shoot it,” Jenkins said. “He trusted me and it went in.”
Washington’s C.J. McCollum led all scorers with 42 points, but missed two potential game-winning shots in overtime. Javonte Green sealed the win for Detroit with a dunk in the final seconds.
In another overtime thriller, Norman Powell scored 33 points while Andrew Wiggins’ alley-oop dunk at the buzzer lifted the Miami Heat past the Cleveland Cavaliers 140-138. Donovan Mitchell had 28 points and 15 rebounds for the Cavs.
Elsewhere, Desmond Bane hit a game-winning three-pointer to give the Orlando Magic a 115-112 victory over Portland. Victor Wembanyama starred for San Antonio with 38 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks in a 121-117 win over Chicago.
Luka Doncic led the Los Angeles Lakers with 38 points in a 121-111 victory over Charlotte, while Giannis Antetokounmpo powered Milwaukee past Dallas 116-114 with 30 points.
