Crime rate drops by 18.4% nationwide, PNP chief reports

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported an 18.4% decrease in crime nationwide from Jan. 12 to March 22, 2025, compared to the previous 70-day period. PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil credited the decline to the collective efforts of law enforcement in ensuring public safety.

“I thank everyone for their collective effort in bringing down the crime rate. Let us not be swayed by any news that may try to discredit our work —instead, let our actions speak for themselves. This decline is a testament to our dedication, discipline, and commitment to public safety,” Marbil stated.

The number of focus crimes—including murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, and vehicle and motorcycle theft—dropped from 8,950 incidents recorded between Nov. 3, 2024, and Jan. 11, 2025, to 7,301 incidents from Jan. 12 to March 22, 2025.

Significant reductions were observed in key crime categories: murder cases fell from 1,535 to 1,243, homicide from 1,341 to 1,021, and physical injury from 1,002 to 663. The PNP also noted a decline in rape, theft, and carnapping cases. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Police Regional Office (PRO) 4A (Calabarzon), and PRO 7 (Central Visayas) recorded notable improvements.

Marbil urged officers to maintain their integrity and professionalism. “We must continue to uphold the dignity of our uniform and serve with integrity. Let us support our subordinates and guide them in their duties rather than reprimanding them publicly,” he said.
