Cordillera police: Heightened visibility to continue after poll period

The Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PROCAR) assured the public on Wednesday that police visibility will continue to be heightened as an anti-criminality stance even after the election period.

“Hindi porke at natapos na and eleksyon ay nagtatapos na din ang serbisyo ng pulis. Eleksyon man o wala, ang kapulisan niyo ay maaasahan ninyo na tuluy-tuloy ang serbisyo (Police services do not stop just because the election is over. Whether it is election or not, you can count on your police that it will continue to serve),” Brig. Gen. David Peredo, PROCAR regional director, said during the “Kapihan sa Kampo” at the police headquarters in La Trinidad, Benguet.

He said that in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., they are implementing a 90-10 ratio for police visibility.

“At least 90 percent of our policemen are on the field for police visibility while only 10 percent are inside the offices doing administrative functions,” Peredo said.

He said that even those performing administrative functions will be utilized for police visibility after they are done with their work.

Peredo said that based on the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters’ directive, the presence of police personnel on the streets will continue to be heightened to ensure that the people would feel safe while in public places.

He said that in Abra which required more police personnel, the provincial and municipal offices would continue conducting checkpoint operations aside from visibility to maintain the peace in the province.

Peredo said they already have a template to maintain peace and order in Abra and the rest of Cordillera, which they will continue to implement.

“We survived the election, especially in Abra and we already have a template to use for the next elections,” he said.

Peredo said the coordinated action and movement of all sectors, including the public, helped maintain peace in Abra, and they hope this would continue for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) later this year.
