Organizers of the upcoming “Concert at Sea for Peace and Solidarity” clarified that the event near Pag-asa Island is not intended to escalate tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
Ed dela Torre, president of the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM), said the concerts, set for May 26 in El Nido and May 28 near Pag-asa Island, aim to raise awareness among Filipinos and neighboring countries about regional issues.
“We are hoping that there will be no distractions and it (event) will add to the interest of the people,” he said at the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City.
The group is coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to ensure participants’ safety.
Featured performers include Filipino artists Noel Cabangon and Ebe Dancel, as well as musicians from Japan and Indonesia.
The El Nido concert will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 26, while the Pag-asa Island event will take place during the day on May 28. Both will be livestreamed on Facebook.
