Runners gather together for a fun run with a collective action for water conservation and environmental sustainability.
On April 27, 2025, the spirit of community and environmental advocacy came alive at La Mesa Ecopark, where more than 500 participants joined Taralets Para sa Tubig!—a Fun Run and Nature Walk organized by the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) in partnership with the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), in celebration of World Earth Day.
The event was more than a run; it was a powerful demonstration of collective commitment to water conservation and environmental protection. Participants from local water districts, supplier partners, diplomats, executives, and families joined in 1.5K, 3K, and 5K runs—all united under a common goal: to raise awareness for the country’s most vital resource—water. The event’s rallying cry, “Let’s create ripples of action that flow forward for a water-secure nation,” set the tone for the day.
PAWD President Salvador “Budz” Royeca called for solidarity among water districts nationwide, while LWUA Chairman Ronnie L. Ong, who joined the race himself, underscored the government’s long-term commitment to ensuring sustainable water access. Notable attendees included Manila Water President and CEO Jocot de Dios, a key private sector advocate for water sustainability; H.E. Miguel Utray, Ambassador of Spain; and H.E. Constance See, Ambassador of Singapore, who joined the 3K run with her family—highlighting both personal and diplomatic support for grassroots climate initiatives.
After the run, dignitaries and special guests participated in a guided ecological tour of La Mesa Ecopark, gaining deeper appreciation for the natural watershed that provides clean water to millions across Metro Manila.

The La Mesa Ecopark (LME), is an environmental haven located in Quezon City which fosters a rich biodiversity and offers experiential learning on environmental conservation and protection.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Ong stressed the importance of personal and collective action:
“We work hard to ensure every home receives safe, affordable water—from source to tap. Today is about committing, together, to conserve water for a secure tomorrow. That’s why, in response to your incredible support, I’m pledging a rainwater catchment facility for La Mesa Ecopark,” he announced.
Participants also had the chance to make their commitment tangible by signing a “Commitment Wall,” pledging to champion water conservation in their homes and communities. The wall, soon filled with heartfelt messages and signatures, stood as a powerful symbol of united action.
The event fostered an inclusive and hopeful atmosphere, bringing together families, friends, and colleagues to support a shared cause. PAWD President Royeca expressed gratitude to all who made the event possible:
“This shows what we can achieve when government, private sector, and the public work hand in hand. We’re deeply thankful for the overwhelming support.”
The run was professionally managed by WeKenRun, led by Coach Ken Mendola, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all. Participants received reusable race kits, commemorative finisher medals, and most importantly—a renewed commitment to environmental responsibility.
Taralets Para sa Tubig! was a reminder that every step matters, especially when taken together toward a more sustainable and water-secure future.
