Coco Gauff, tennis elite salute Alex Eala after SEA Games triumph

Alex Eala isn’t just winning titles; she’s winning the respect of the tennis world’s biggest heavyweights.

Fresh off a dominant, three-medal performance at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the Philippine tennis sensation found herself in the spotlight of the global elite.

After Eala took to social media to dedicate her victory to her home country with the caption “Para sa Pilipinas at para sa Pilipino,” the comments section quickly turned into a “who’s who” of the WTA tour.

Leading the cheers was world No. 3 and Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff, who sent a simple but powerful “Congratulations” to the Filipina star. Joining the chorus was world No. 18 Victoria Mboko, who added an enthusiastic “Oh yeahhh” to celebrate Eala’s golden run.

The high-profile nods come as no surprise given Eala’s meteoric rise. Her stint in Thailand was nothing short of a masterclass: she secured the coveted gold medal in women’s singles and added two bronze medals in the mixed doubles (alongside Francis Casey Alcantara) and the team event.

The SEA Games success serves as the exclamation point on a career-defining year for the 20-year-old. Over the past twelve months, Eala shattered barriers by breaking into the WTA Top 100 and capturing her maiden WTA 125 title in Guadalajara last September.

While Eala has long been the darling of Philippine sports, the public “salute” from icons like Gauff signals a shift in her status. No longer just a rising prospect, Alex Eala has officially arrived on the world stage—and her peers are watching.
