Coast Guard suspends Surigao sea trips due to Inday

The Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte temporarily halted sea travel on Thursday morning for all watercraft with a gross tonnage of 35 and below due to rough weather brought by Typhoon Inday.

Inday, known internationally as Bavi, continued to affect sea conditions in several parts of the country.

Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. bulletin that rough seas were expected over the northern and eastern seaboards.

The state weather bureau said waves in these areas could reach up to 4 meters, posing risks to smaller vessels.

The Surigao del Norte Coast Guard said the travel suspension would remain in place until further notice.

Coast Guard Station Siargao also issued a similar travel suspension on Thursday for vessels with a gross tonnage of 35 and below.

The Siargao advisory covered trips to Bucas Grande Islands, Dinagat Islands and other areas affected by the unfavorable weather.

Coast Guard Station Dinagat Islands had earlier suspended sea travel on Wednesday afternoon, while Surigao del Norte Coast Guard units had been under heightened alert since Wednesday in preparation for Inday’s possible impact.
