Political group 1Sambayan on Sunday renewed its call for the Department of Finance and the National Treasury to give back more than ₱107 billion earlier transferred from the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The funds were remitted to the National Treasury in early 2025 under a special provision of the 2024 General Appropriations Act and an implementing finance circular.
The appeal followed a recent Supreme Court ruling ordering the return of ₱60 billion in excess funds taken from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
In the decision, the high court nullified the budget provision and finance issuance that authorized the transfer of excess reserves of government-owned and controlled corporations to the Treasury.
1Sambayan said the PDIC money is held in trust for bank depositors and cannot be treated as government revenue.
The group said the ruling has become final and executory, leaving fiscal authorities with a legal obligation to comply.
It urged Finance Secretary Frederick Go and National Treasurer Sharon Almanza to immediately restore the ₱107.23 billion to PDIC in line with the Supreme Court’s directive.
