Cloudy skies, isolated rains to prevail over the weekend

The northeast monsoon (amihan) and easterlies are set to bring cloudy skies and isolated rains across different parts of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its latest weather bulletin issued at 4 a.m. on Saturday.

The Bicol Region and Quezon province will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, primarily due to the influence of the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan Valley and Aurora province will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the northeast monsoon, which typically brings cooler temperatures and rain showers during this season.

For Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected, also due to the northeast monsoon. While these rains are generally light, residents should still be prepared for occasional drizzles.

The rest of the country, including Visayas and Mindanao, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, caused by the easterlies.

PAGASA also reported that moderate to strong winds will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon, bringing mild to rough sea conditions. Fishermen and small sea vessels are advised to exercise caution, as rough seas could pose navigational hazards.

Light to moderate winds are expected for the rest of the country, resulting in slight to moderate sea conditions, which are generally safer for maritime activities.

PAGASA continues to monitor weather patterns and urges residents, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions. The public is encouraged to stay updated through official weather advisories and be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions, especially with the increasing likelihood of localized thunderstorms.
