Cignal HD Spikers’ rising star Ishie Lalongisip has been recognized as the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Press Corps Player of the Week for February 4 to 8, making history as the first rookie to receive the prestigious award.
Lalongisip delivered a standout performance on Thursday, leading Cignal to a dominant 25-12, 25-15, 25-17 victory over Capital1 at Philsports Arena in Pasig City. She tallied 13 points, helping her team snap a two-game losing streak and improve their record to 6-3 in the All-Filipino Conference.
Embracing the responsibilities given to her, the 23-year-old former Adamson University standout acknowledged the pressure but remained focused on turning it into a positive force.
“I just embrace the role given to me by coach Shaq [Delos Santos]. Maybe the pressure is always there, but I entertain it positively,” Lalongisip said.
She edged out PLDT’s Savi Davison, Petro Gazz’s Brooke Van Sickle, and Creamline’s Bea De Leon for the weekly honor, which Pilipinas Live presents.
With the mid-season departure of skipper Ces Molina and middle blocker Riri Meneses, Lalongisip stepped up to fill the void, seizing the opportunity to showcase her skills on the court.
Looking to maintain their momentum, the Cignal HD Spikers will face the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles (4-5) on February 13, aiming for another crucial win in their campaign.
