CIDG starts issuing subpoenas as probe on flood control mess continues

The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has begun issuing subpoenas to individuals connected to the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities within government flood control projects.

The CIDG confirmed the development on Friday, stating that the action is pursuant to its authority under Republic Act 10973 and in line with the directive of acting Chief PNP, Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

Nartatez had ordered all PNP units to fully cooperate with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) leading the probe.

CIDG spokesperson Maj. Helena Cruz said, “In line with its investigative mandate, the Group has issued subpoenas to certain individuals.”

She added that other concerned persons may be summoned as the investigation progresses.

Citing the active status of the inquiry, the CIDG declined to disclose further details on the matter, deferring to the ICI for more specific information.

The multi-agency review of flood control projects was authorized by Executive Order No. 94 after reports of potential anomalies surfaced.
