The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Metro Manila said it was prepared to serve arrest warrants against high-ranking government officials once ordered by a court.
CIDG-NCR chief Col. John Guiagui made the statement Thursday amid the expected filing of a plunder case against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
The case involves an alleged Php 75 million donation to Marcoleta when he was still a congressman before his 2025 Senate bid.
Guiagui said the CIDG had not received any arrest warrant against a high-ranking official as of Thursday.
He said, however, that serving court-issued warrants remains part of the CIDG’s mandate.
Guiagui said the unit would implement any warrant issued by the court, as it had done in previous cases.
Asked how authorities would carry out a possible warrant against Marcoleta amid ongoing Iglesia ni Cristo protests, Guiagui said such an operation would require careful preparation involving not only the CIDG but the entire PNP.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier said the case against Marcoleta would soon be filed, prompting INC members to stage protests in support of the senator and against what they described as selective justice. Guiagui also said CIDG teams continued manhunt operations for accused individuals still at large in flood control-related cases.
