CIDG arrests key DPWH exec in P289M flood control scandal

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has announced the arrest of another official linked to the anomalous P289.5-million Oriental Mindoro flood control project, who was apprehended upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday afternoon.

The accused was identified as Engr. Montrexis Tamayo, the Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Mimaropa (Region 4B) Planning and Design Division.

Joint operating teams from the CIDG National Capital Region (NCR) and the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEG) took Tamayo into custody after monitoring his arrival on Emirates Airlines Flight UAE332.

A police report confirmed that the warrant was served without incident.

Tamayo is one of 16 individuals facing charges of graft and malversation before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the allegedly substandard road dike project.

His arrest brings the total number of accused now in government custody to nine, following the recent surrender and arrest of eight others over the weekend.

Following his arrest, Tamayo was brought to the CIDG national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

He is expected to be presented before the Sandiganbayan for the formal return of the arrest warrant and commitment to a designated jail facility.
