Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival on Thursday night ordered uninterrupted search and rescue operations following a deadly landslide at a landfill site in Barangay Binaliw.
Archival said emergency teams have been instructed to work around the clock as authorities continue to hold out hope that survivors can still be recovered.
The mayor went to the scene to personally monitor the response and later spoke with relatives of workers who have yet to be found, assuring them that rescue efforts remain ongoing.
He stressed that all responders were told to sustain their operations while observing safety protocols, with saving lives identified as the top priority.
Archival also coordinated with the private landfill operator, police units, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and other government agencies to streamline the emergency response.
According to the mayor, the landfill management committed to assisting affected workers and their families and pledged full cooperation should an investigation be launched.
Initial reports said one person was killed and about 30 others remain missing after the landslide struck in the afternoon, damaging structures, heavy machinery, and vehicles at the site.
