Cash aid targets add’l 5.8K tricycle drivers in Ilocos Region

DAGUPAN CITY - The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is eyeing to serve 5,880 tricycle drivers in Ilocos Region during the two-day distribution of the cash relief assistance starting Monday.

DSWD regional information officer Kristine Sheila Amoroso, in a phone interview, said that of the total number, 87 tricycle drivers from Ilocos Norte, 519 in Ilocos Sur, 1,588 in La Union, and 1,824 in Pangasinan, have received the assistance on Monday.

Another 525 tricycle drivers in Ilocos Norte and 1,337 in La Union are set to receive assistance on Tuesday.

They are part of the cash aid’s 367,000 tricycle driver-beneficiaries outside Metro Manila.

Each of the beneficiaries received PHP5,000.

She said DSWD has already disbursed over PHP153 million for cash relief aid to 30,601 tricycle drivers in the Ilocos Region as of April 20.

The cash relief assistance aims to ease the burden of the effects of oil price hikes caused by the Middle East conflict.

The distribution of cash relief aid to tricycle drivers outside of Metro Manila started April 8 and is expected to be completed at the end of this month. (PNA)
