NEW CLARK CITY — Carlos De Imus of the Philippine Army showcased a commanding performance in the men’s 10,000-meter race walk on Friday at the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships, held at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium.

De Imus crossed the finish line in 46 minutes and 11.11 seconds, well ahead of University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) Vincent Vianmar Dela Cruz, who clocked 50:17.84, and National University’s John Aaron Aranda, who finished in 51:51.65.

“I’m satisfied with my performance, but I still hold myself to high standards,” said the 24-year-old De Imus, who improved significantly on his previous time of 48:21.93 from last year’s edition of the event at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

De Imus recently set a new Philippine record in the 20,000m race walk, clocking 1:30.03 at the Asian Race Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan, on March 16—an achievement that earned him a spot on the national team.

“It’s a dream come true,” said De Imus, a UST sports management graduate. “Every athlete hopes to represent the country.”

In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Robyn Brown took top honors with a time of 57.39 seconds, outpacing Paris Olympian Lauren Hoffman, who finished in 1:00.20 while recovering from a left Achilles injury. Thailand’s Anisa Wenuwamarak came in third at 1:00.42.

“It feels good to win,” Brown said. “Lauren is a strong competitor, and we’ve all seen what she’s capable of.”

Brown previously claimed the 400m hurdles title at the 2023 Asian Championships in Bangkok with a time of 57.50 seconds.

Other standout gold medalists included Fil-Americans Kristina Knott (women’s 200m), Marc Anthony Rosario (men’s 200m), Yacine Guermali (men’s 5,000m), and Joida Gagnao of the Philippine Army (women’s 5,000m).

The ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships is a key qualifying event for both the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December and the Asian Youth Games in Manama, Bahrain, this October.
