Cardinal Tagle Named New Titular of Albano by Pope Leo XIV

Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has been appointed by Pope Leo XIV as the new titular of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Albano, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

The announcement was made Saturday, marking Tagle’s succession to a title previously held by Pope Leo himself since February 2025 before his election to the papacy. Tagle currently serves as pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization.

The Diocese of Albano, situated just outside Rome, is one of seven suburbicarian sees traditionally assigned to cardinal bishops—the highest-ranking members of the College of Cardinals.

Before this appointment, Tagle held the title of cardinal priest of San Felice da Cantalice in Centocelle, a role he began in 2012. In 2022, Pope Francis elevated him to cardinal bishop status and assigned him to the same titular church.
