Caraga suspends sea travel as Uwan nears

Authorities across the Caraga Region have implemented a mandatory suspension of all sea travel and high-risk outdoor activities as Typhoon Uwan approaches, prompting the issuance of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over key areas.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) enforced a temporary suspension on the operations of all vessels and watercraft starting Friday evening in Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao Island. 

The move followed an advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which placed the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands under TCWS No. 1.

The PCG has advised all shipping companies to take precautionary measures by securing their vessels in safe harbors without any passengers or cargo onboard.

In response to the escalating threat, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Surigao del Norte escalated its Emergency Operations Center to a blue alert status. Residents across the province have been instructed to remain alert, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with local authorities.

Tandag City Mayor Roxanne Pimentel in Surigao del Sur also issued a separate no-sailing policy and a prohibition on all sea activities.
