BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) has reported a significant 70 percent decrease in the number of index crimes in the region.

PRO-13 director Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano said Wednesday the substantial reduction is based on a comparison of data covering April 21 to 27 and April 14 to 20.

“The number of index crimes recorded dropped dramatically from 20 incidents during the week of April 14 to 20 to just six incidents in the following week,” Abrahano told reporters here.

He said incidents of theft fell from six to two, physical injuries from five to two, rape incidents from three to zero, and murder also from three to zero.

Abrahano attributed this notable decrease in index crimes during the specified period to the intensified anti-criminality campaigns and operations conducted by the various police stations and units under PRO-13.

He also acknowledged the crucial support and cooperation of the public and other stakeholders in achieving this progress, and assured that PRO-13 is committed to sustaining these positive gains in crime reduction.

Index crimes, as defined by law enforcement, include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles. (PNA)
