Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand arrived in Pakistan on Monday for her first official visit to the country, marking the first trip by Canada’s top diplomat to Islamabad in nearly two decades.
After arriving in the Pakistani capital, Anand proceeded to the Foreign Ministry for a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The two officials are expected to hold bilateral talks covering key areas of cooperation between Pakistan and Canada.
Their discussions will focus on expanding trade and investment, strengthening educational partnerships and promoting people-to-people exchanges.
The ministers are also set to discuss regional and international developments affecting both countries.
During her visit, Anand is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior Pakistani officials.
Pakistan and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1947, and Canada is now home to more than 300,000 people of Pakistani descent.
Bilateral merchandise trade reached about $1.2 billion in 2025, with Pakistan exporting around $696 million worth of textiles and leather products to Canada, while Canadian exports to Pakistan, valued at nearly $500 million, consisted mainly of agricultural goods.
