CAAP: Habagat disrupts 13 flights, triggers diversions

Thirteen flights were affected by bad weather on Monday as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, disrupted landing operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said.

CAAP reported eight diversions, three missed approaches and two go-around attempts as poor weather conditions affected several routes.

Flights diverted to Clark included Air Canada’s Vancouver-Manila service, Philippine Airlines’ San Francisco-Manila flight and AirAsia flights from Da Nang and Bacolod.

Cebu Pacific’s Tacloban-Manila flight was redirected to Iloilo, while its Dubai-Manila service landed in Cebu. Emirates’ Dubai-Manila flight was also diverted to Cebu.

A Central Airlines flight bound for Clark from China was rerouted to Manila. CAAP said some of the diverted flights carried hundreds of passengers.

Three Clark-bound flights operated by Jin Air, Jeju Air and Scoot abandoned their initial landing approaches because of poor visibility and other weather-related conditions.

Philippine Airlines’ Taipei-Manila flight and Cebu Pacific’s Caticlan-Manila service also performed go-arounds before attempting to land again.

As of 3 p.m., CAAP had not reported any flight cancellations linked to the weather, although passengers were advised to continue checking airline and airport updates.
