The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has issued a fresh warning to the public over a fraudulent online article that falsely uses the name and image of BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr., in what the central bank described as a deliberate attempt to deceive readers.
In an advisory, the BSP said the circulating article is entirely fake, including a supposed interview between Governor Remolona and television host Boy Abunda, as well as the statements attributed to the BSP chief. The central bank added that the post also used AI-generated images to falsely portray the Governor and lend credibility to the fabricated content.
The BSP urged the public to remain vigilant against misleading online material, especially posts and articles that misuse the identities of government officials and institutions to spread false information.
The central bank likewise called on the public not to share the fraudulent article, warning that doing so could further amplify misinformation and expose more people to possible scams or deception.
To help the public verify suspicious messages or online content claiming to be from the BSP, Governor Remolona, or other BSP officials and personnel, the central bank advised checking directly through its official contact channels.
The BSP may be reached at its office on A. Mabini Street corner P. Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila, through telephone numbers (+632) 8811-1277 or 8811-1BSP, or via email at bspmail@bsp.gov.ph.
The advisory comes as authorities continue to grapple with the growing misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms to create convincing but false content, underscoring the need for stronger public vigilance in the online space.
