The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) emphasized the importance of
leveraging data and innovative tools to support evidence-based policies during the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) closing ceremony held online on 29 October 2024.
In line with the theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital
In Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation, the BSP highlighted the need for a transformative mindset in today’s digitally empowered society.
“This resonates well with the BSP’s commitment to go ‘digitALL,’ as it
upgrades its systems and processes to produce quality data and provide relevant information that addresses the needs of its stakeholders,” said BSP Deputy Governor Francisco G. Dakila, Jr. on behalf of BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr.
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa also said, “By making data-driven decisions, we can build a more prosperous and equitable nation.”
Experts from various fields of central banking discussed the country’s
international reserves, factors affecting real property prices, trends in digital payments, and the financial health index of the Philippines.
Since 2001, the BSP has led the NSM closing ceremony, demonstrating its
commitment to promoting accurate, complete, timely, and accessible statistical information nationwide.
The annual NSM celebration, organized by the Philippine Statistical System and spearheaded by the PSA, aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the importance of statistics across various sectors and encourage public cooperation in improving the quality and standard of statistics in the country.
The NSM is celebrated every October under Presidential Proclamation No. 647 dated 20 September 1990.
