BSP, AMA Rural Bank reach comprehensive settlement to protect depositors

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has confirmed that it has reached a full and amicable settlement with AMA Rural Bank of Mandaluyong, Inc., a development aimed at safeguarding the interests of the bank’s depositors, creditors, and other clients.

In a statement, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said all disputes between the central bank and AMA Rural Bank of Mandaluyong, Inc. have been resolved comprehensively, paving the way for the execution of a formal agreement between the two parties.

The BSP emphasized that depositors, creditors, and other clients of AMA Bank should directly coordinate with the bank regarding the submission of claims for payment and any related inquiries. This move is intended to streamline the process and ensure that affected stakeholders are guided through the proper channels.

Under the terms of the Compromise Agreement, the central bank clarified that AMA Bank will remain under BSP’s regulatory jurisdiction for the purpose of overseeing and ensuring the effective implementation of the agreement.

The BSP said this continued supervision is essential to protect public interest and uphold regulatory standards within the banking system.

The settlement marks a significant step toward resolving long-standing issues surrounding AMA Bank, with the BSP reiterating its commitment to financial stability and depositor protection as a core mandate of the country’s banking regulator.
