The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday reported that it collected more than P80 billion in revenue for the first month of 2026, exceeding its initial target and marking a strong start for the fiscal year.

Preliminary data released by the agency showed total collections reached P80.64 billion in January. The figure is 2.2 percent higher than the bureau’s internal goal of P78.91 billion for the month.

The January haul also represents a significant increase compared to the P73.4 billion collected during the same period in 2025.

In a statement, the BOC attributed the positive performance to improved valuation, intensified collection efforts, and the government’s ongoing crackdown on smuggling.

The agency also noted that the volume of imports remained steady, providing a consistent tax base for duties and taxes.

“This early success reflects our commitment to transparency and efficiency in revenue collection,” the bureau said. “We continue to streamline our processes to ensure that we meet our annual obligations to fund the government’s key infrastructure and social programs.”

The BOC is one of the Philippine government’s largest revenue-generating agencies, alongside the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

For 2026, the BOC is tasked with a higher annual collection target as the national government seeks to narrow the budget deficit while funding “Build Better More” projects.

Customs officials added that digital transformation initiatives, including the automation of frontline services, have helped minimize human intervention and reduce opportunities for corruption, further boosting the agency’s collection capacity.
