BOC and Maya renew partnership to enhance electronic payment systems

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) formally renewed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Maya Philippines, Inc. (Maya) to advance electronic payment systems for the convenience of stakeholders.

The signing ceremony, held on December 19, 2024, marked a milestone in the BOC’s ongoing efforts to modernize its collection processes and improve public accessibility.

The MOA, signed by Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio and Maya Head of Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs Kristoffer Eduard Rada, outlines the integration of Maya’s payment gateway platform into the BOC’s operations. This will enable stakeholders to pay miscellaneous fees and charges through various innovative channels, including online checkout, bills payment, PayMaya One POS terminals, and Smart Padala centers.

The agreement also extends to collecting duties and taxes for goods processed under informal entry procedures via the BOC’s ePayment Portal System. The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) are also integral partners in this initiative, highlighting a unified approach to modernizing payment systems.

During his remarks, Commissioner Rubio expressed confidence that this initiative will significantly improve service delivery, strengthen the agency’s commitment to modernization and stakeholder satisfaction, and emphasize the importance of collaboration.

Rubio added, “With the ability to uphold our respective responsibilities outlined in our MOA, we are well-positioned to meet our collective goals and objectives. The Bureau of Customs looks forward to this collaborative partnership with BTr, DBP, and Maya and anticipates even stronger cooperation among all of us in the near future.”

The partnership aligns with Customs Memorandum Order No. 06-2024, which governs the implementation of electronic payment systems. This reinforces the agency’s dedication to providing stakeholders with secure and convenient payment options.

Through technology and collaboration, the BOC continues to advance a more efficient, transparent, and service-oriented customs administration, demonstrating its commitment to innovation and strategic partnerships that serve the public.
