At least nine people were killed and 29 others injured late Friday after a large pile of confiscated explosives detonated at a police station in the Indian portion of Kashmir, police sources confirmed Saturday.
The blast occurred at a police station in Srinagar. Most of the deceased were police personnel, including forensic officials who were reportedly examining the seized materials at the time of the explosion. Sources indicated that some of the 29 injured victims are currently in critical condition.
The intensity of the blast was significant, complicating the identification process as some bodies were severely burned. According to police, the force of the explosion was powerful enough to scatter body parts, which were recovered from homes located between 100 and 200 meters away from the police station structure.
The incident follows a separate car blast in New Delhi earlier in the week that killed eight people. (PNA)
