PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Puerto Princesa City Jail, in collaboration with the City Health Office (CHO) conducted a medical and dental outreach mission on May 29 to enhance the well-being of inmates.
The event dubbed “Tarabidan sa Kalusugan” (Tara sa Barangay, Ilapit at Dalhin Serbisyong Pangkalusugan); aimed to deliver accessible healthcare services to the inmates in the facility.
The PDL availed of free medical consultations, medications and laboratory tests, including urinalysis, fasting blood sugar, and cholesterol screening.
The CHO also addressed the dental needs of female inmate by conducting dental consultations and tooth extractions using the Department of Health (DOH) Dental Health Bus. All resources, including medicines and dental supplies, were provided by the CHO.
“Sa mga health providers at sa BJMP, taos-puso po ang aming pasasalamat. Dahil sa inyong malasakit at dedikasyon, kami po ay muling nabigyan ng pag-asa at lakas (To the health providers and the BJMP, we express our sincere gratitude. Because of your concern and dedication, we have been given hope and strength again,” Ana, 38, a female inmate, said.
BJMP Mimaropa Regional Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo said the collaborative effort underscores their commitment to the health and rehabilitation of inmates, “aligning with its broader mandate to provide comprehensive health services, including medical assessments, health education and counseling, to all individuals under its custody.”
Anglo said the outreach program also reflects the BJMP’s dedication to fostering partnerships with local government units to ensure the holistic development and rehabilitation of inmates, preparing them for reintegration into society upon their release.
