The sealed green box said to contain the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte was returned to the Bureau of Internal Revenue on Tuesday.
BIR Commissioner Charlie Mendoza confirmed that the agency had received the box after the Senate impeachment court ordered its return.
Mendoza said the box arrived at the BIR at around 11:40 a.m.
The records had been offered by the House prosecution panel as part of its evidence in Duterte’s impeachment trial.
The evidence was linked to the article of impeachment involving allegations of unexplained wealth against the vice president.
The Senate impeachment court ordered the box returned to the BIR after the prosecution sought to have its contents unsealed and marked as evidence.
The box was earlier subpoenaed by the House committee on justice during the impeachment proceedings against Duterte.
Its handling raised concerns over possible violations of the National Internal Revenue Code, which protects the confidentiality of tax records.
