Josh Allen
The Buffalo Bills have locked in their franchise quarterback for the long haul.
On Sunday, the team announced a massive six-year, $330 million contract extension with Josh Allen, securing his future in Buffalo through the 2030 season. The deal includes a record-setting $250 million in guaranteed money, the most ever awarded to an NFL player, according to multiple reports.
Allen, who had four years remaining on his previous contract, now ranks among the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks. His new deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $55 million per season—trailing only Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys, who leads the league with a $60 million AAV. The guaranteed money surpasses Deshaun Watson’s previous record of $230 million, while only Patrick Mahomes’ $450 million contract is worth more overall.
A well-deserved reward
While the Bills weren’t in urgent need of a new deal for Allen, his performance made the extension a no-brainer. Coming off an MVP-winning season, Allen led Buffalo to its fifth straight AFC East title and a return trip to the AFC Championship Game—his second appearance in the past five years.
The star quarterback has already rewritten the Bills’ record books. In 2024, he threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns while adding 12 rushing scores. He also made NFL history as the first player to record at least 25 touchdown passes, 10 rushing touchdowns, and fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season.
Since entering the league as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen has amassed more wins, total touchdowns, and total yards in his first seven seasons than any quarterback in NFL history.
A championship mindset
Allen’s extension is part of a broader effort by the Bills to keep their core intact. In recent days, the team also secured contract extensions for defensive end Gregory Rousseau, linebacker Terrell Bernard, and wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
Despite Allen’s dominance, Buffalo has yet to reach the Super Bowl under his leadership. The franchise, which famously made four straight Super Bowl appearances from 1990-93 without securing a title, is still chasing its first championship.
By making this long-term commitment, the Bills are betting on Allen to finally take them to the promised land.
