The Bureau of Immigration (BI) lauded at least 32 immigration officers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for their dedication during Bagyong Kristine. They extended their shifts to ensure the continuity of essential services despite the adverse weather conditions.
The officers’ commitment was crucial in maintaining smooth airport operations as heavy rains and flooding disrupted flights.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado expressed his appreciation, stating, “Our officers displayed remarkable commitment during Bagyong Kristine, prioritizing the welfare of travelers despite the risks. Their actions embody the spirit of public service and resilience.”
Viado visited NAIA on October 26 to conduct on-site inspections following the typhoon’s impact.
During his visit, he met with immigration personnel and assessed the situation at the airport to ensure that all necessary measures were in place to support ongoing recovery efforts.
Viado commended the officers for their swift response and resilience in overcoming operational challenges.
The BI Chief shared that many officers could not attend to their duties after being affected by the floods brought about by Typhoon Kristine. In response, other officers extended their shifts to ensure services remained unhampered.
“Their dedication has helped minimize disruptions to passengers during heightened uncertainty and travel delays,” said Viado.
Flights at NAIA are gradually returning to normal after several cancellations caused by the typhoon.
The BI advises travelers to arrive at the airport early, as higher passenger volumes are expected in the coming days due to rescheduled flights and increased demand.
