The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported 96 fire incidents nationwide from 6 p.m. on December 31, 2025 to 6 a.m. on January 2, 2026.

Of these, 66 were structural fires, a notable increase from 52 cases during the same period in 2024, while the remaining 30 involved vehicles and non-structural cases.

Authorities said faulty electrical wiring and accidents at firecracker stalls were among the leading causes of the incidents.

BFP Spokesperson FSupt. Anthony Arroyo credited the agency’s quick response and preparedness for preventing greater damage and casualties.

“The dispatch was successful because our teams were able to respond immediately to potential fires. They were already on standby… Even without the use of firetrucks, our personnel were already on site, working together,” Arroyo said.

The BFP reminded the public to observe fire safety rules, especially during large gatherings and holidays when electrical overload, pyrotechnics, and flammable materials pose higher risks.

Authorities also urged communities to report unsafe conditions promptly and follow standard precautions to avoid preventable accidents.
