CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection in Northern Mindanao (BFP-10) on Wednesday urged the public to prioritize reporting fire incidents before sharing them on social media.
Fire Chief Superintendent Romel Tradio of BFP-10 expressed concern over a growing trend where bystanders record fires for social media instead of immediately contacting emergency services.
“Fire rescuers cannot respond promptly if incidents are not reported to us immediately,” Tradio said in an interview. He emphasized that the 911 hotline is the fastest way to report emergencies, to help minimize property damage and save lives.
Tradio’s appeal was highlighted during the BFP-10 launch of National Fire Prevention Month, marked by a kick-off ceremony in the city.
He also noted that the BFP-10 is benefiting from the national government’s modernization program, which includes asset purchases and personnel training to enhance fire response capabilities. (PNA)
