MANILA – A proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) corridor between Subic and New Clark City was formalized following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the Singapore-based AG&P Group.
BCDA, in a news release Tuesday, said the project backs the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), a major infrastructure project launched under the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI) that aims to connect industrial sectors from Subic Bay, Clark, Metro Manila and Batangas.
BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang and AG&P Group Chief Executive Officer Karthik Sathyamoorthy signed the MOU on Oct. 14, it said.
The MOU provides for the assessment of the planned Luzon LNG Gateway, eyed to provide for “a seamless transport of LNG supply from Subic to a proposed scalable power plant planned for New Clark City in Tarlac” as well as the “study of potential digital infrastructure projects to support the needs of advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and other high-value industries expected to locate in New Clark City.”
“We thank AG&P for its confidence in BCDA and its interest in exploring investments that can support the growth of New Clark City and the Luzon Economic Corridor. Reliable energy and strong digital infrastructure will be essential to attracting advanced industries, creating jobs, and positioning the Philippines to take part in the next wave of growth in manufacturing and artificial intelligence,” Bingcang said.
Sathyamoorthy, in turn, said “being part of the growth journey to attract investments and create more job opportunities for the Philippines is something we care deeply about.”
“The potential value in developing an advanced manufacturing hub at New Clark City is enormous, and this is where having a reliable energy source will be a key factor,” he added. (Joann Santiago-Villanueva/PNA)
